Michael’s diagnosis came after almost a year of ongoing migraines and treatments that never seemed to fully resolve.
When doctors finally ordered a CT scan, it revealed a brain tumour the size of a fist.
Over the years that followed, Michael and Penny were often told treatment was working and the cancer appeared stable. Throughout it all, Michael continued working, raising his daughters and trying to maintain normal life.
But brain cancer can change quickly and without warning.
In Penny’s words, “In about six months, we went from ‘everything will be fine’ to having to say goodbye.”
Continued investment in brain cancer research is essential to improving earlier detection, monitoring and treatment options for people affected by this disease.

A huge thank you to the East Ward team at Westmead Private Hospital for their ongoing support of Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
For several years, the team has come together to host a Morning Tea fundraiser, helping raise awareness of brain cancer while supporting vital research. This year, staff donned purple, enjoyed cupcakes, took part in a raffle and Kahoot quiz, sold merchandise and collected donations, raising an incredible $2,783.
Events like these demonstrate the power of community and the difference that can be made when people come together in support of a shared cause.
To Samantha and everyone involved, thank you for your generosity, enthusiasm and continued support. Together, you are helping drive progress towards better treatments and outcomes for people impacted by brain cancer. 💜💙
