Today is R U OK? Day – our annual reminder that every day is the day to check in on our friends, families and colleagues and ask “are you OK?”

Going for a walk with someone is a great opportunity to start a conversation and check in on how they are going. Not only do you both benefit from being physically active, walking with someone else can also help to overcome feelings of isolation and loneliness, making it easier to connect with each other and have an open conversation.

What an incredible day we had last Sunday!

Every year, we come together, and this year, despite the morning rain, so many of you braved the weather to walk side by side with the people we support, taking steps toward raising awareness and reminding everyone that mental health matters.

A huge thank you to all the amazing guests, organisations, and sponsors who supported this year’s Walk: Her Excellency Margaret Beazley, Governor of NSW, the team at NSW Government House, , Otsuka Australia Pharmaceutical Pty Ltd, , , , Stride Mental Health, , Corrective Services NSW Band, Mental Health Coordinating Council, , ,

Also a big thank you to all the volunteers - your hard work and dedication helped make this event a success. We couldn’t do it without you!

Our Story

The Wellness Walk is the creation of Larry Smith. Larry started up the Wellness Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge after going to New York and participating in the NAMI Walks over the Brooklyn Bridge in support of mental health and fighting stigma. The NAMI Walk now takes place in more than 80 locations across the USA.

This year more than 50,000 people in more than 85 communities across the USA will walk in support of mental health. The NAMI Walk has grown exponentially, ours is just beginning.

Why walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge?

Crossing Sydney Harbour Bridge signifies bridging the gap by moving from stigma to understanding. Gathering together shows community support, union and care to anyone who is suffering. The act of walking reflects that living with mental illness is a step-by-step, one-step-at-a-time process.
