Adara Group
We believe every person deserves access to quality health, education and other essential services.
For decades, Sister Christine Otai and Sister Cornety Nakiganda have stood beside mothers and babies during some of life's most important moments.
Together, they have dedicated more than 90 years to caring for women, newborns and families across Uganda.
They have welcomed new life into the world, trained generations of health workers, and helped transform maternal and newborn health in Uganda.
As they retire from Adara, we celebrate two remarkable women whose compassion, dedication and leadership have left a lasting mark on families, communities and health systems across Uganda.
Their careers may be ending, but their impact will be felt for generations to come.
Listen to hear some of their reflections from a lifetime of service.

Skilled care during labour saves lives.
Nearly 2 million babies are stillborn each year — many deaths are preventable with timely, quality care.
In Uganda, we’re working alongside midwives, nurses and doctors to change this. Because nearly half of late stillbirths occur during labour, strengthening skills at the point of care is critical.
Last week, health workers at Luwero Hospital completed three-day training focused on stillbirth prevention. Together, they identified gaps in care, developed practical action plans, and built their confidence in recognising danger signs and responding early.
The training also focused on compassionate bereavement care — supporting both families and health workers through loss.
For mothers, this means safer births — and fewer families experiencing preventable heartbreak.
Together, we’re working towards a future where every birth is safer 💙

When crises collide, mothers and newborns feel it most.
In Uganda, an Ebola threat is intersecting with the economic ripple effects of the recent conflict in the Middle East. One is close to home. The other more distant.
Together, these pressures are putting health services under real strain—especially for mothers and babies.
We’re focused on maintaining essential care while staying ahead of risk—so mothers and newborns can continue to receive life-saving support.

Students in Humla got their hands in the soil this World Environment Day 🌱
Last week, they celebrated by planting trees and flowers in their school grounds. They also painted stones with their names to place beside the trees — each one carrying the name and story of the student who planted it.
These simple acts are helping students care for their environment, build pride in their schools, and create greener spaces for the future.
Join us in celebrating these students and the care they are showing for the world around them 💚
