πŸ’š Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month – June πŸ’š

This June, our Under 18.5 football team is proud to support Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a global campaign dedicated to breaking down the stigma around mental health and encouraging men to seek support when they need it.

The club is incredibly proud of the initiative shown by our Under 18.5 players in bringing this campaign forward and helping raise awareness around such an important issue. Their willingness to advocate for mental health demonstrates leadership, maturity and a genuine commitment to supporting their mates both on and off the field.

To show our support and help raise awareness, our Under 18.5 players will be wearing green armbands during our next two home games.

Too often, men feel pressure to β€œman up” and face challenges alone. The reality is that having conversations, checking in on mates and reaching out for help can make a real difference.

This month, we encourage everyone to:

πŸ’š Check in on a mate
πŸ’š Start a conversation
πŸ’š Listen without judgement
πŸ’š Reach out for support when needed

Mental health affects everyone. Whether it’s a teammate, friend, family member or workmate, a simple conversation can have a lasting impact.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available:

πŸ“ž Beyond Blue – 1300 22 4636 (24/7 support and counselling)
πŸ“ž South West Healthcare Mental Health & Wellbeing Service – 1800 808 284 (24-hour phone support)
πŸ“ž Lifeline – 13 11 14 (24/7 crisis support)

No one has to face life’s challenges alone.

Together, we can help create a community where talking about mental health is encouraged and seeking support is seen as a sign of strength.

Round 8 Recap 🦁

The Lions travelled down to Noorat to take on the Power in Round 8. It was a cold day, but thankfully the rain stayed away for most of it, allowing for a great day of football and netball played in terrific spirits.

In the junior netball, our 11&U girls were involved in an absolute thriller as both sides searched for their first win of the season. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for our young Lions, but they more than doubled their season goal tally and continue to improve every week.

The 13&U girls kept the pressure on with another strong victory, while B Grade continued their impressive season with a great win to remain firmly in the top five. In A Grade, the girls battled hard but were unable to turn a three quarter time lead into four points.

Over on the football field, our Under 13.5 footballers got the day off to a perfect start with a commanding victory. Harrison Leach was outstanding, booting seven majors in a best on ground performance.

While the rest of the club was at Noorat, our Under 16s travelled to Nirranda and returned home with the four points after a strong win.

The Under 18s and Reserves also recorded impressive victories before our Senior footballers completed a successful day for the footy program. The boys won every quarter on their way to a 57 point win, with a terrific mix of youth and experience leading the way. Brandan Lynch made his senior debut, while Under 18 graduate Jack Hope kicked seven goals. Zac Urquhart and Sandy Williams were influential contributors, but it was a genuine team performance across the board.

Next week we return to our home deck to welcome the Demons before backing it up with our inaugural Ferret Racing Night. This family friendly event is open to everyone, so come along and see just how fast these little critters can race through the pipes.

A huge thank you to our Round 8 sponsors.

Western District Crane Services have been providing heavy lifting, crane hire and project management solutions across Australia for more than 35 years, supporting major industrial and construction projects from their Warrnambool base.

Bade Ness Rural, your local CRT store, provides quality farming products, agronomy advice and rural merchandise to farmers, contractors and hobby producers throughout the region. Their ongoing support of local communities and sporting clubs is greatly appreciated.

We thank both businesses for their valued support of the South Rovers Football Netball Club. 🦁
