There’s a reptile running your team meeting right now. 🦎

Not a metaphor. An ancient piece of wiring inside every one of us — with one job: keep you safe.

It’s why a calm chat suddenly goes sharp.
It’s why your best person went quiet.
It’s why “just communicate better” never works.

Because most behaviour at work isn’t personality.
It’s protection.

Once you can spot the reptile — in your team, your meetings, yourself — you stop managing people and start understanding them.

I’ve been building something around this. 👀

More very soon.

(Curious already? Good. That’s the reptile too.)

Before June 30, businesses everywhere will spend to save tax. 🧾

Most of it goes on things that depreciate — vehicles, equipment, tech.

Almost none of it goes on the thing that breaks down first: your people.

A burnt-out leader doesn’t show up on a depreciation schedule. A team running on empty doesn’t have a service light.

But the bill still arrives — in turnover, sick leave, and the stuff nobody saw coming.

New financial year. New chance to do it differently.

I’ve got room from July for on-site workshops and wellbeing work across regional Vic and beyond. Practical, body-based, no fluff — the kind your team can actually use on Monday morning.

If keeping your people steady is on the list this year, let’s talk. 💛

Your team has done the resilience training.

Maybe more than once.

So why are they still burning out?

Here’s the uncomfortable answer: most resilience training fails.
Not because the content is wrong — because it’s aimed one level too high.

Nearly all of it works on the mind. Reframe your thoughts.
Build your grit.
Bounce back.
Think differently about pressure.

But here’s what the nervous system tells us:
➡️ you cannot think your way to calm when your body is in survival mode.

When the threat response is running —
➡️ deadlines reading as danger, ➡️ the inbox pinging like a predator
— the thinking brain goes quiet.

That’s not weakness.
That’s design.
⭐️ You can’t reason with a nervous system that believes it’s being hunted. ⭐️

So we teach people to “be more resilient” while their biology is screaming threat. ❌

And when it doesn’t stick, they quietly assume they failed. ❌

They didn’t.
The order was wrong.

Resilience isn’t the input.
It’s the output.

It’s what grows on top of a regulated nervous system — not something you can drill into a dysregulated one in a half-day workshop.

Regulation before resilience. ✅

Build the capacity to notice the threat response and return to steady, and resilience takes care of itself.
Skip that step, and you’re asking people to bounce back from a place their body won’t let them leave.

That’s why the training didn’t land.
And it’s not your people’s fault.

Capacity to lead.
Capacity to cope.
Capacity to communicate. Capacity to thrive.

Real change. No fluff.
