Respect Has No Uniform.

Every weekend, volunteers give up their own time so children can enjoy the game they love.

They don’t get paid. They don’t ask for recognition. They simply give back to their community.

If you’re an adult and you can’t regulate your emotions at a children’s football match, perhaps you should stay home.

Abusing volunteers, referees, match officials or children isn’t passion.

It’s bullying and quite frankly it’s disgusting.

Thankfully, the overwhelming majority of people involved in community football are respectful, supportive and appreciative. But it’s time we stop accepting abuse as “part of the game.” It isn’t.

If this post makes you feel uncomfortable, ask yourself why. If you support children, respect volunteers and appreciate match officials, this isn’t about you. But if you think shouting at volunteers, abusing referees or directing aggression towards children is acceptable, perhaps it’s time to take a long, hard look in the mirror.
