According to some sources, NASA has lost contact with Voyager 2 after sending a wrong command that caused its antenna to point away from Earth. This means that the spacecraft cannot receive or send any data until it reorients itself. NASA hopes that this will happen on October 15, when Voyager 2 is scheduled to reset its orientation. However, NASA also reported that it was able to detect a faint signal from Voyager 2, which indicates that the spacecraft is still alive and operating. NASA is trying to send a new command to correct the antenna alignment, but the chances of success are low. Voyager 2 is currently more than 12.3 billion miles away from Earth, so it takes about 18.5 hours for a signal to travel one way. Voyager 2 and its twin Voyager 1 are the only spacecraft ever to operate outside the heliosphere, the protective bubble of particles and magnetic fields generated by the Sun. They reached interstellar space in 2018 and 2012 respectively. They have made many discoveries and observations about the outer planets and their moons, as well as the interstellar medium.
