University Students Protest in Dhaka Demanding Justice for Sharif Osman bin Hadi
Dhaka, Bangladesh —
Students from several universities gathered at Shahbagh in central Dhaka on Today, demanding justice for the killing of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, as anger grows over what protesters describe as political violence and impunity.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the students called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing. The demonstration caused significant disruption in the area, with traffic coming to a standstill as police deployed additional forces to maintain order.
According to the protesters, Sharif Osman bin Hadi was shot dead in a targeted attack. They alleged that the shooting was carried out by Faisal, who they claim is an activist of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League.
Protest leaders cited a police investigation report, stating that it allegedly indicates the involvement of leaders and activists linked to the Awami League’s northern unit and its student wing. They accused politically connected groups of attempting to influence the investigation and demanded a fully independent and transparent judicial process.
“This is not just the killing of one individual. It reflects a culture of political violence on university campuses,” said one student protester, calling for an end to what they described as the misuse of student organisations for violent activities.
The protesters warned that the movement would spread to campuses nationwide if their demands are not met. They also called on the government to ensure the safety of students and protect the right to peaceful protest.
Authorities have not yet released detailed findings from the investigation, and the Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League have denied or not officially responded to the allegations so far.
The protest highlights ongoing concerns in Bangladesh over campus politics, student safety, and accountability in cases involving alleged political violence.

আমি কখনোই বিএনপির অ'ন্ধ সমর্থক ছিলাম না।
বরং তাদের বহু সিদ্ধান্ত, আচরণ ও রা'জনৈতিক সংস্কৃতির আমি প্রকাশ্য স'মালো'চক।
তবুও সত্যিটা বলি—তারেক রহমানের প্রতি আমার ভেতরে কোথাও একটা নীরব আস্থা কাজ করত।
মনে হইতো, তিনি দেশে ফিরলে হয়তো বিএনপির দীর্ঘদিনের কিছু পাপ অন্তত আংশিকভাবে হলেও মুছে যাওয়ার সুযোগ তৈরি হবে।
এই বিশ্বাসের মূল কারণ ছিল একটাই—তার শরীরে শহীদ জিয়াউর রহমানের র'ক্ত প্রবাহিত। ভেবেছিলাম, সেই আদর্শ, সেই রা'ষ্ট্রনায়কোচিত দূরদৃষ্টি, সেই দায়িত্ববোধ হয়তো তার মধ্যেও কোনো না কোনোভাবে বিদ্যমান থাকবে।
কিন্তু তার দেশে ফেরার মাত্র এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যেই আমার সব ধারণা ভুল প্রমাণিত হয়েছে। যাকে আমি একজন বড় মাপের নেতা হিসেবে কল্পনা করেছিলাম, তিনি খুব অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই আমার চোখে একজন তৃতীয় শ্রেণীর নেতা ও মূ'র্খ অ'যোগ্য চরিত্রে পরিণত হয়েছেন।
এর পেছনে দু’টি স্পষ্ট কারণ রয়েছে—
প্রথমত,
নিজের দলের ভেতরে থাকা দু'র্নীতিবাজ, চা'ন্দাবাজ ও ক্ষমতালো'ভী নেতাকর্মীদের লাগাম টানার বদলে তিনি উল্টো তাদের আরও উ*স্কে দিচ্ছেন।
হাসিনার মতোই ‘চেতনা’কে রা'জনৈতিক পণ্যে রূপান্তর করে ভিন্নমত ও বিরোধী শক্তিকে ট্যাগ দিয়ে ছোট করার পথে হাঁটছেন।
সবচেয়ে দুঃখজনক বিষয় হলো—তিনি জামায়াতকে ‘গুপ্ত’ বলে কটাক্ষ করেছেন।
থার্ডক্লাস টো'কাইদের কাতারে দাঁড়িয়ে এই বক্তব্য দেওয়ার আগে তার নিজের রা'জনৈতিক ইতিহাস একবার আয়নার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে দেখা উচিত ছিল।
তিনি নিজে ভয় ও চাপে পড়ে মুচলেখা দিয়ে দেশ ছেড়েছিলেন—তখন আমরা তাকে গুপ্ত বলিনি।
বিদেশে বসে অনলাইনে লুকিয়ে নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছেন—তখনও তাকে গুপ্ত বলিনি।
তার মায়ের বাসার রাস্তা বালুর ট্রাক দিয়ে আটকে দেওয়া হয়েছিল, তিনি দেশে ফিরতে পারেননি—তখনও আমরা তাকে গুপ্ত বলিনি।
এমনকি হাসিনা পালিয়ে যাওয়ার পরও দেশে ফিরতে তার দেড় বছর সময় লেগেছে—তখনও আমরা তাকে গুপ্ত বলিনি।
অথচ জা'মায়াতের নেতাকর্মীরা ভয়াবহ জু'লুম, নি'র্যাতন কা'রাবরণ মৃ*ত্যুদন্ডের মধ্যেও দেশেই থেকেছে।
এই বাস্তবতায় দাঁড়িয়ে অন্যদের ‘গুপ্ত’ বলা আসলে শালীনতার অভাব এবং আত্মসমালোচনার সম্পূর্ণ ব্যর্থতারই প্রমাণ।
দ্বিতীয়ত,
এই কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা ও প্রযুক্তিনির্ভর যুগে দাঁড়িয়ে তিনি চার কোটি পরিবারকে ‘ফ্যামিলি কার্ড’ দিয়ে কার্যত ডিজিটাল ভি'ক্ষুক বানানোর স্বপ্ন দেখাচ্ছেন।
২০ হাজার কিলোমিটার খাল খননের মতো অবাস্তব ও লোকদেখানো পরিকল্পনা তুলে ধরে আবারও পুরোনো, ব্যর্থ ভোটের রা'জনীতিতে ফিরতে চাইছেন।
বাংলাদেশের মানুষ ভি'ক্ষা চায় না—চায় সম্মান।
কার্ড চায় না—চায় কর্মসংস্থান।
স্লোগান চায় না—চায় আধুনিক, বাস্তবসম্মত ও সাহসী নেতৃত্ব।
দুঃখের সঙ্গে বলতে হয়, তারেক রহমান সেই প্রত্যাশার জায়গায় পৌঁছাতে তো পারেনইনি—বরং খুব অল্প সময়েই নিজের প্রতি থাকা শেষ বিশ্বাসটুকুও নিজেই নষ্ট করে দিয়েছেন।
