ক্ষমতার চেয়ার আর কারাগার পাশাপাশি থাকে: প্রধানমন্ত্রী! গণঅভ্যুত্থান হবে এবং গণতন্ত্র ও দেশের মানুষ রক্ষা পাবে! শুরুতেই মোগল সম্রাট শাহজাহানের জীবনের অন্তিম সময়ের কিছু ঘটনা আপনাদের স্মরণ করিয়ে দিতে চাই। টানা ৩০ বছর সমগ্র ভারতবর্ষ শাসন করার পর তিনি ১৬৫৮ সালে হঠাৎ করে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েন। দিল্লির শাহী জামে মসজিদ, দিল্লির দুর্গ অর্থাৎ লালকেল্লা, ময়ূর সিংহাসন, আগ্রার তাজমহল, আগ্রার দুর্গসহ শত শত দৃষ্টিনন্দন স্থাপনা নির্মাণ করে তিনি সমগ্র ভারতবর্ষকে উন্নয়নের সহস্রাব্দের এক মহা রোলমডেলে পরিণত করেন। ভারতবর্ষ ভ্রমণে গিয়ে যখন আগ্রার তাজমহল এবং আগ্রা দুর্গ পরিদর্শন করছিলাম তখন নশ্বর দুনিয়ার লীলাখেলার নিষ্ঠুর বাস্তবতার কথা স্মরণ করে নস্টালজিয়ায় আক্রান্ত হয়েছিলাম। আগ্রা দুর্গের যে অংশে সম্রাট শাহজাহান তার বিদ্রোহী পুত্র সম্রাট আওরঙ্গজেব কর্তৃক বন্দী ছিলেন সেখানকার ব্যালকনিতে দাঁড়িয়ে একবার যমুনা নদীর দিকে তাকাচ্ছিলাম আবার পরক্ষণে উদাস নয়নে তাজমহলের দিকে তাকিয়ে ইতিহাসের সর্বাপেক্ষা সফল রাষ্ট্রনায়কের জীবনের অন্তিম আটটি বছরের কারাবাসের নির্মম পরিণতির কথা ভাবার চেষ্টা করছিলাম।

সম্রাট শাহজাহানের মতো বহু শত রাজা-বাদশাহ সম্রাট কিংবা রাজাধিরাজ ছিলেন- যারা তাদের অন্তিম সময়টি কারাগারে অতিবাহিত করেছেন। তাদের মধ্যে কেউ হয়তো ভালো মানুষ ছিলেন এবং নিয়তির অমোঘ টানে প্রথমে কারাগার; পরে কারাগারের দুঃখ-দুর্দশার মধ্যেই মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন। রাজা-বাদশাহদের বিরাট অংশ অবশ্য নিজেদের কুকর্ম দ্বারা মর্মান্তিক নিয়তিকে ডেকে এনেছিলেন। তারা ক্ষমতার আসনে বসে জন্ম-মৃত্যু আল্লাহ-রাসূল, নিয়তি বা পরিণতি সব কিছু ভুলে গিয়েছিলেন। নিজেদের ক্ষমতার দাপট দেখাতে গিয়ে তারা এতটাই অত্যাচারী এবং অমানবিক হয়ে পড়েছিলেন যে, তাদের কুকর্মের কারণে আকাশ-বাতাস প্রকৃতি পরিবেশ পর্যন্ত বিক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে পড়েছিল। ফলে তাদের পতন ও কারাবাস ছিল জঘন্যতম অবমাননাকর এবং বীভৎস। ভারতের কুখ্যাত গোয়ালিয়র দুর্গের প্রতিটি ইট-পাথরের মধ্যে কত শত স্বৈরাচারী শাসক, উচ্ছৃঙ্খল শাহজাদা-রাজকুমার এবং তাদের সহযোগী ক্ষমতার দোসরদের আর্তচিৎকার লুক্কায়িত রয়েছে তা ইতিহাসের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা খুব ভালো করে জানেন।

ইতিহাসে অনেক রাজা-বাদশাহ ছিলেন যারা হয়তো কারাবরণ করেননি কিন্তু জীবনের অন্তিম মুহূর্তে পুরো দুনিয়াটি তাদের জন্য কারাগার হয়ে পড়েছিল। সামান্য একটু আশ্রয়-প্রশ্রয় অথবা ভালোবাসার জন্য তারা ক্ষণে ক্ষণে হাহাকার করে উঠতেন। সম্রাট আকবরের শেষ জীবনের বিষাদময়তার কাছে পৃথিবীর সব বিষাদ যেন ম্লান হয়ে যায়। তার রাজত্ব কেবলইমাত্র তার প্রাসাদের একাংশে সীমাবদ্ধ হয়ে পড়েছিল। পুরো সাম্রাজ্য তখন যুবরাজ সেলিম ওরফে জাহাঙ্গীরের কথামতো চলছিল। তার দীর্ঘদিনের বিশ্বস্ত আমীরওমরাহ, সেনাপতি এবং রাজদরবারের ‘অলঙ্কার’বৃন্দ হয় মারা গিয়েছিলেন নতুবা মারা পড়েছিলেন। আবার অনেককে পালিয়ে যেতে বাধ্য করা হয়েছিল। সম্রাট আকবরের অন্তিম সময় সম্পর্কে ইতিহাসে লিখিত রয়েছে যে- তিনি প্রায়ই একাকী একটি পাথরের ওপর বসে মাথা নিচু করে থাকতেন এবং কারো সাথে কথা পর্যন্ত বলতেন না।

সম্রাট আকবরের চেয়েও ভয়ানক পরিণতি ভোগ করেছিলেন দিল্লির সালতানাতের আরেক মহানায়ক সুলতান আলাউদ্দিন খিলজি, শেষ বয়সে তিনি তার সেনাপতি মালিক কাফুরের কাছে কার্যত বন্দী হয়ে পড়েন। প্রাসাদের অভ্যন্তরে তাকে সারাক্ষণ নির্যাতন চালানো হতো এবং মাঝে মধ্যে লোকজনকে দেখানোর জন্য রাজদরবারে এনে পুতুলের মতো বসিয়ে তোতা পাখির মতো শেখানো বুলি আওড়াতে বলা হতো। কথিত রয়েছে যে, সেনাপতি মালিক কাফুরের নির্দেশে সুলতানকে প্রাসাদের অভ্যন্তরে শিকলবন্দী করে রাখা হতো এবং পশুদের সাথে সে ধরনের আচরণ করা হতো ঠিক তেমনটি করা হতো ‘ইতিহাসের অন্যতম নিষ্ঠুর অথচ সফল ও বিজয়ী”ভারতসম্রাটের সাথে। আলাউদ্দিন খিলজির বংশধর ছিলেন সুলতান কুতুবউদ্দিন মুবারক শাহ। প্রখ্যাত ভারতীয় সাংবাদিক খুশবন্ত সিংয়ের ‘দিল্লি” উপন্যাসে সুলতান মুবারক শাহের অন্তিম সময়গুলোকে এতটা জীবন্ত করে তোলা হয়েছে যা পাঠ করলে কেউ কোনো দিন ক্ষমতার সিংহাসনে বসে অপকর্ম করতে চাইবেন না। কুতুবউদ্দিন মুবারক শাহ ছিলেন খিলজি বংশের সুলতান। তার পূর্বসূরি দাস বংশের বেশ কয়েকজন সুলতানের অন্তিম জীবন ছিল বীভৎস। সুলতানা রাজিয়া এবং মুইজউদ্দিন কায়কোবাদের কারাবাস, মৃত্যু এবং রাজত্ব যেন বৃহত্তর কারাগারে পরিণত হয়ে গিয়েছিল। ফলে যারা দুনিয়ার মানুষ তাদের হয়তো সুলতান কিংবা সুলতানা হিসেবে ভয় করত কিন্তু তারা খুব ভালো করে জানতেন, কতবড় কারাগারে তারা অন্তরীণ রয়েছেন।

রাজা-বাদশাহদের কারাবাস ক্ষমতার জীবন নিয়ে উদাহরণ দিতে গেলে শত শত পৃষ্ঠা লিখে শেষ করা যাবে না। তাদের কুকর্ম, কুকর্মের ইচ্ছা এবং তার পরিণতি নিয়ে লিখতে গেলেও বিশাল এক মহাগ্রন্থ হয়ে যাবে। আধুনিককালে আমরা কতগুলো বৈজ্ঞানিক সূত্রের কথা অহরহ শুনি, সেগুলোর ওপর ভিত্তি করেই মূলত গত দুইশত বছর ধরে পৃথিবীর অতি আশ্চর্যসব বৈজ্ঞানিক আবিষ্কারের সূত্রপাত হয়েছে। আকাশ-পাতাল, মানবমণ্ডলী এবং প্রকৃতি পরিবেশের যে নিবিড় সম্পর্ক তার সব কিছুই যেসব সূত্রের ওপর নির্ভর করে আবর্তিত হয়, সেগুলোর মধ্যে মহাকর্ষণ, মাধ্যাকর্ষণ এবং অভিকর্ষের সূত্র অন্যতম। আপনারা শুনলে অবাক হবেন যে, মানুষের লোভ-লালসা-ক্ষমতা, শুভ কর্ম, কুকর্ম পরিণতি এবং ধ্বংস সব কিছুর মধ্যেই মহাকর্ষণ, মাধ্যাকর্ষণ এবং অভিকর্ষের সূত্র নিয়ামক হিসেবে কাজ করে থাকে। মানুষের জন্ম এবং তার বংশগত ডিএনএ’র কারণে তার মধ্যে অর্থাৎ তার অস্থিমজ্জা, হাড্ডি-মাংস, রক্ত ও চামড়ার প্রতিটি অণু পরমাণুর মধ্যে দোষগুণ একাকার হয়ে থাকে। তার মেজাজমর্জি, কথাবার্তা, অঙ্গভঙ্গি এবং রোগ বালাই থেকে শুরু করে শারীরিক সুস্থতা, সংবেদনশীলতা, প্রতিভা ইত্যাদি সব কিছুই বংশপরম্পরায় তার মধ্যে বিকশিত হতে থাকে।
