On 16 February 2026, and conducted a field visit to the University of Technology Bahrain () as part of the initiation of the self-assessment phase as part of the ‘Healthy University’ reawarding process.
In 2023, the University of Technology Bahrain was awarded as a Healthy University.

The health-promoting universities assessment process extends across 6 domains and over 100 indicators on general indicators, the university environment, promoting healthy lifestyles, health development, safety and emergency preparedness and response and community participation and sustainability.

To be awarded, a health-promoting university must meet at least 80% of the indicators developed by the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean. Certification is valid for 3 years, after which institutions are subject to re-evaluation to ensure sustainability and scaling up of the initiative.

The programme recognizes higher education institutions as key contributors to sustainable development through their vital role in protecting and advancing the health and well-being of students, staff and surrounding communities.
