Gartered Trogon
Trogon caligatus

Trogon: it is Greek and means fruit-eating
caligatus: Latin and means booted, as this bird tarsi is thickly covered.

Trogon: Griego comedor de frutas.
calligatus: del Latín y significa con botas, y se refiere al grueso plumaje que baja hasta los tarsos.

In this species the eyering is diagnostic, as the male is the only Costa Rican trogon with yellow eyering and the females eyering is whitish and elliptical.
This trogon prefers the canopy in forest areas and semi-open areas, it perchs at exposed branches where it can be seen taking insects and fruits on the flight.

En esta especie el anillo ocular es diagnostico, ya que el macho es el único trogon en Costa Rica con anillo ocular amarillo y el de la hembra es blancuzco y elíptico.
Este trogon prefiere el dosel en áreas boscosas o semi-abiertas donde se percha en ramas expuestas desde donde coge insectos y frutas en vuelos cortos.
