June 2, Coronation Day of the Fourth King

I take a moment to reflect on a very important day in Bhutan’s history – the coronation of our Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

His Majesty became King in 1974, at a very young age. Even though he was just 17 years old, he led our country with great wisdom, love, and care. He worked hard to make Bhutan strong, peaceful, and happy.

One of the most special things His Majesty gave us is the idea of Gross National Happiness. This showed the world that happiness is more important than just money or power. He taught us that caring for people, protecting the environment, and keeping our culture alive are just as important as development.

Thanks to His Majesty, Bhutan has become a country that is respected all over the world. He opened our country slowly to the outside world, always thinking about what is best for the people. He always stayed humble and close to the people.

What makes him even more special is that he gave up the throne by choice to let the Fifth King take over. He believed in democracy and wanted the people to have a say in their future. This shows his deep love for the country and trust in the new generation.

On this coronation day, I feel thankful to be part of a country that was guided by such a wise and caring King. His Majesty will always be remembered as a great leader, a kind father to the nation, and a symbol of true Bhutanese values.

Thank you, Your Majesty. Your legacy will always live in our hearts.

Therefore he is said to be a hidden yogi and an accomplished practitioner or Drubthob, who remains hidden and unknown for most of the world as well as for ordinary people and spiritual masters. He is also known for guiding his deceased mother through the intermediate realm of the bardo by visualizations and recitations of one hundred thousand prayers of the Zangchö Mönlam .Thus, this master can be regarded as a real yogi practitioner or naldjorpa , a practitioner who continuously remains in the Natural State.

HE Drubthob Gyaltshen is still continuing his meditation in Gelongdra above Tshamdra Gonpa.
