Today, Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTC Botswana) had the privilege of hosting one of its key stakeholders and partners, the Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU), alongside its partners, the International Trade Union Confederation – Africa (ITUC-Africa) and the Just Transition Platform (JTP). The organisations gathered for a networking engagement as part of the 5th Annual Just Transition Platform (JTP), held this week. The platform brings together a diverse global network of researchers, policy experts, and climate advocates with extensive regional knowledge and expertise on Africa’s climate change policy landscape.

To welcome the delegation, DTC Botswana Managing Director, Ms Serty Leburu, hosted the guests and acknowledged the strong representation from various African countries. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of continental unity and collaboration, stating: “As countries from different regions, we need to grow Africa together. By doing so, we are able to support and care for one another, which ultimately reflects the spirit of love, a value that a diamond represents. Diamonds symbolise love and have been part of families’ celebrations, milestones and achievements for generations. Through these moments, their value becomes enduring. It is through the sparkle of diamonds, value creation & beneficiation and global collaborations that we are able to build stronger countries.”

During the engagement, DTC Botswana provided the delegation with valuable insights into the diamond value chain and the significant contribution the diamond industry continues to make towards national development, employment creation and economic growth. As Botswana’s diamond sector remains a cornerstone of the country’s economic development, DTC Botswana continues to support initiatives and partnerships that promote sustainable growth, value creation and long-term prosperity, ultimately enhancing livelihoods across Botswana and beyond.
