Focus on school success: Do well in English, Maths, and Sciences.

After Form 5: pursue university, college, or vocational training.

High-demand fields: Medicine, ICT, engineering, accounting, aviation, law.

If not academic, focus on practical trades (plumbing, mechanics, welding, driving, agriculture).

Learn digital skills (coding, social media marketing, e-commerce) that open global opportunities.

Marry wisely: Choose a supportive, disciplined partner who shares the same vision.

Avoid rushing into marriage just for beauty or status โ€” a wrong partner can lead to poverty.

A good marriage helps through:

Pooling resources (two incomes are better than one).

Stability (avoiding reckless lifestyle and wasting money on multiple relationships).

Family planning: Have children you can afford to raise and educate well.

Avoid divorce traps (expensive lifestyle, cheating, poor communication).

Congratulations on your admission to University or tertiary Institutions. As you begin your university journey, understand that this is more than just academicsโ€”it is a test of your discipline, values, and vision for the future. This opportunity is rare and powerful, especially for those coming from rural areas. Do not take it for granted.

โš ๏ธ The Dangers You Must Avoid:

โŒ Drugs and alcohol may seem exciting or like a way to fit in, but they are highly addictive and can lead to poor mental health, academic failure, and even expulsion.

โŒ Multiple concurrent relationships and intergenerational s*xual relationships often come with manipulation, emotional trauma, and financial exploitation.

โŒ These risky behaviors also increase your exposure to s*xually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

> HIV/AIDS is still a serious issue in Botswana.
One reckless night can change your life forever. Living with HIV means lifelong medication, stigma, and possibly limited opportunities for work, relationships, or starting a family. Protect your body and your future. Use protection or abstain. Know your status. Donโ€™t trade s*x for money, rent, or validation.

โŒ Gambling, including Forex trading, sports betting, and Betway, is not a sustainable way to make money. Most students lose everything trying to โ€œget rich quick.โ€

โŒ Too much partying, trying to keep up with โ€œcity life,โ€ or surrounding yourself with the wrong crowd will distract you from your purpose.

โŒ Neglecting your studies can lead to failure, and in Botswana, failure means discontinuation. The government will not sponsor you again.

> And then what? Youโ€™ll go back to your village empty-handed, dreams crushed, and your parentsโ€”who sacrificed so muchโ€”will be left in tears.

โœ… What You Should Do Instead:

Focus on your purpose โ€“ you are here to study, graduate, and secure your future.

Live within your means โ€“ donโ€™t chase city lifestyles you canโ€™t afford.

Surround yourself with positive people or attend Churchโ€“ avoid peer pressure.

Respect your body โ€“ protect yourself from STDs and unintended pregnancies.

Ask for help โ€“ when youโ€™re stressed, anxious, or confused, talk to student counsellors, lecturers, or someone you trust.

Stay grounded โ€“ remember your roots, your goals, and your family.

๐ŸŽ“ This is your one shot. Donโ€™t waste it.

You are not just a studentโ€”you are someoneโ€™s hope. Botswana needs you. Your village is watching. Your future is in your hands.
Stay focused. Stay safe. Stay strong.

Lastly if you have choosen a course you are not sure of especially those that are not marketable the soon you change it the better. The time is now before you waste 4 years and regret later as unemployment is very high amongst the youth at about 30%.

All those that have not been admitted due to low poijts you are adviced to write again via BOU or go to Brigades and technical colleges. For any further guidance you can inbox. Gokd luck.
