OIL MARKETS UNDERPRICE HORMUZ RISK AS TENSIONS ESCALATE

The oil market is sending a puzzling message: despite fresh missile attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial energy chokepoints, crude prices stubbornly hover around $73 a barrel; far below the $90 mark many analysts might expect given the risks. Nigel Green, CEO of the deVere Group, a global financial advisory giant, warns that this complacency could leave investors dangerously exposed. The ongoing geopolitical volatility in the Persian Gulf, he argues, is severely underpriced, with markets behaving as if the threat to global energy supplies is negligible.

This week, the CEO Africa Roundtable Botswana Chapter convened at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) to chart a course for the nation’s future. The gathering brought together some of Botswana’s most influential leaders and visionaries, underscoring a shared determination to accelerate the diversification and growth of the country's economy. Among the highlights was a keynote address by Minister Tiroyaone Ntsima, a presentation on the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) by Senior Policy Advisor Naledi Madala, and a commitment from the Investor Hosting Centre (IHC) to support local entrepreneurs. The event also featured a resolute pledge from the Botswana Chapter Chairman, Tryphinah Dongwana-Kenalemang, to complement government efforts, while CEO Africa Roundtable Founder Kernius Mafukidze promised to bring at least three investments to Botswana soon.
