MEET OUR SPEAKERS: Topoyame Mabophiwa
Topoyame is a Sustainable Finance professional passionate about African Development, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, and Women Empowerment. With a robust background in Chemical Engineering, bolstered by a Masterโs degree in the same field and a GARP Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCRยฎ๏ธ) certification, Topo has made her mark over seven years in the Corporate and Investment Banking, ESG, and Impact Investing sectors.
Currently, Topo serves as a Climate Finance Principal, where she assists in managing a portfolio that includes forest and agriculture projects and program carbon investments, all of which have financial, social, and environmental impacts. In this role, she is instrumental in bringing new capital investors on board. In her past roles, Topo has been involved in crafting annual Impact and ESG reports, ensuring they align with the latest ESG and Impact reporting best practices and international standards. She has also played a part in initial ESG Screening , Social and Environmental Due Diligence and has contributed her technical expertise on significant ESG risks during the investment process. Furthermore, Topo has had a hand in informing term sheets and facility agreements with ESG input and has helped develop Social and Environmental Action Plans for their inclusion in the Facility Agreements.
In 2021, she played the role of Climate Ambassador for the Global Climate Youth Network by Y2Y. She proudly affiliates with the Global Shapers Community, an initiative by the World Economic Forum. With her combined expertise from YGC and the banking and investments sectors, Topo provides invaluable guidance to businesses that balance profitability and sustainability. As a panelist, she generously shares her knowledge and experiences, underscoring businesses' immense potential to flourish while remaining environmentally conscious and socially responsible.

Inviting applications for Constellations Fellowship, Fall 2023!
If you are a student or recent graduate with an interest to work with global organizations working on climate change issues then this fellowship is for you! The Constellations program of the Global Warming Mitigation Project is connecting students and recent graduates with virtual fellowships in their global network of climate organizations.
The Global Warming Mitigation Project will help pair Oorja with fellows that will help us propel our climate change adaptation and mitigation endeavors. As part of the fellowship, Oorja will be hiring for two positions- Business Expansion Research Fellow, Monitoring & Evaluation Fellow.
The fellowship will be virtual, or part-time and will run for 12-14 weeks, starting on Monday, September 18th, 2023. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a regional economic community founded and maintained by countries in Southern Africa. It aims to further the socio-economic, political and security cooperation among its Member States and foster regional integration in order to achieve peace, stability, and wealth. SADC currently has sixteen (16) Member States with a population of approximately 340 million and a combined GDP of US$720 billion.
SADC Secretariat is currently recruiting interns in different Directorates/Units. The programme is for a duration of six (6) months and offers students and employees of Member States an opportunity to learn and gain practical work experience in their chosen field of study and work. The Secretariat is therefore, inviting qualified citizens of the SADC Member States to apply for the following internship opportunities tenable at its Headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana and at SPGRC in Lusaka, Zambia.

(v) Has not been convicted of any serious criminal offence.

REMUNERATION
The SADC Secretariat shall offer a monthly living allowance of US$250.00 only. The Member States shall bear the cost of relocation, insurance and other related expenses.
TENURE OF APPOINTMENT
Internship shall be for a fixed period of not less than one (1) month but not more than six (6) months.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Closing Date: Applications must be submitted to the SADC National Contact Point in the respective SADC National Contact Points not later than or on 11 August 2023.
Applications should be accompanied by the following:
(i) Cover letter stating the internship stream that you want to be considered for and describe how your qualifications, experience and competencies are relevant to the internship;
(ii) Updated Curriculum vitae;
(iii) Certified copies of your degree(s), Diploma(s) and Certificate(s); transcripts; and
(iv) Identity documents.
