Our Story

We provide a fully equipped medical Helicopter with an emergency Doctor to treat and stabilize patients on the spot and take them to the nearest appropriate location from where further arrangements will be made.

Our emergency call center number "995" is a short code emergency Number for use within Botswana. it is available 24 hours to all our Patrons in need of help due to an accident or acute illness. For Satellite Phones or international Mobile Phones please call: +267 686 15 06.

Okavango Air Rescue aims to provide around the clock Maun-based service. Botswana Aviation Safety Regulations restrict flying to daylight hours. However, in a life threatening situation we have been granted special permission by Civil Aviation to fly at night, weather permitting. Medical advice will be given in such cases until the helicopter is airborne.

Our current radius of operation is Northern Botswana and the Central Kalahari.

OAR is a private organization. It is financed by the annual subscriptions of its Patrons. The Patron's contribution is not an insurance premium, but a contribution which helps keeping the helicopter airborne. Additional funds will be sourced, on invoice, from a Patron's insurance company after medical necessitated rescue is complete.

As a Patronage system has not been created to work free of charge for insurances, but is purely here to eliminate financial worries and provide fast assistance during an emergency, the Patron will never be invoiced by us.

If Patrons who have received our assistance do have an insurance, OAR will deal directly with the insurers regarding payments. This will be the responsibility of OAR and not the Patron.

You can become a Patron of Okavango Air Rescue by paying the following minimum contribution inclusive of 12% VAT:

Botswana Citizens: 150.00 P**a
Botswana Residents: 150.00 P**a
Foreign Tourists: 175.00 P**a

The Patronage is valid for one year and starts with your payment. It entitles you to one free medical necessitated rescue annually. If the Patronage is not renewed it will expire 12 months after your initial payment. Every Patron will be issued with an identifying personal card on receipt of payment.

WE WILL ONLY FLY FOR PATRONS and Patronage is neither transferable nor refundable!

If you wish to make a Donation, your Donation helps to rescue People who cannot afford to become Patrons of OAR, you can donate via our website or personally at the Maun Airport Counter.

Since June 2016 our Pilatus PC 12 has joint the Team and is flying all over Southern Africa to transport Patients from a low level medical care to high care centres according to the condition of the Patients for fee for service.

To provide also a good medical service on the ground, we have established a service level agreement with Maun Medical Centre (MMC) in Maun and together we offer the best possible general and emergency healthcare based on our experience and expertise.

If you are not well in Maun, don’t hesitate and come to see us. MMC is based on the ground floor of our Headquarters. We are here for you on the ground and in the air!
