Diagnosing an engine misfire requires a systematic approach to identify the exact cause without replacing unnecessary parts. The first step is to check for trouble codes using an OBD-II scanner. Misfire-related codes such as P0300 or P0301–P030X help determine whether the issue affects multiple cylinders or a specific one.

Next, inspect the spark plugs carefully. Worn, carbon-fouled, or oil-fouled spark plugs can weaken ignition and cause incomplete combustion. If the spark plugs appear damaged or heavily worn, replacement is recommended.
