Meet Mauricio Choc, coral research intern with the Gignoux-Wolfsohn Lab from UMass Lowell. He will be interning with the GW Lab at the Smithsonian Research Station on Carrie Bow Cay in Belize.

Mauricio is a Marine Biology student at University of Belize interested in ecological conservation, fish ecology and coral reef ecosystems. He is excited about this incredible opportunity to further expand his research experience, strengthen his scientific skills, and contribute to addressing urgent marine conservation challenges by assisting in coral reef research.

On Saturday, March 14th, ReefKeeper Belize hosted a Beach Clean-Up at Dangriga Beachside as part of Reef Week 2026. Volunteers came together to remove trash from the beach, helping protect our marine life and the beautiful Belize Barrier Reef.
