July 26 is , a day to recognize the importance of independence for individuals with disabilities. It is a reminder of the progress made toward equality and inclusion, and the ongoing work needed to ensure all people with disabilities can live with dignity, independence and equal opportunity.

In the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, section 15 prohibits discrimination based on disability, helping to ensure that people of all abilities are supported in living to their fullest potential.
