Jasmine, our Executive Director, attended and spoke at Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Medicine as part of the inaugural *Break the Cycle Summit: Centering Housing Solutions in Response to Gender-Based Violence*, hosted by CSWB Peel.

She was invited to join the opening panel, *Housing Pathways: Learning from Lived Experience*, where they discussed homelessness, housing insecurity, human trafficking, intimate partner violence, and how all of these issues are deeply connected.

Housing insecurity and gender-based violence are deeply connected. We cannot talk about ending human trafficking, intimate partner violence, or exploitation without talking about housing.

Today, we honour and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day β€” a day to recognize the strength, wisdom, cultures, languages, and sacred traditions of First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis Peoples across this land we call Canada. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ§‘

For generations, Indigenous communities have carried teachings rooted in respect for the Earth, connection to spirit, community, healing, and truth. Today is not only a celebration β€” it is also a reminder to listen deeply, learn honestly, and walk forward with humility and reconciliation.

The Sacred Fire Ceremony holds profound meaning in many Indigenous traditions. The fire represents connection to Creator, healing, prayer, purification, and the carrying of intentions and spirits. As the sacred fire burns, it becomes a place of gathering, reflection, storytelling, and unity β€” reminding us that healing begins when people come together in truth, respect, and love.

This June 21st, may we honour Indigenous voices not only today, but every day. May we protect the land, uplift Indigenous communities, and ensure future generations grow up knowing the beauty, resilience, and sacred knowledge of the First Peoples of this country.

May we gather with open hearts.
May we listen more than we speak.
May the sacred fire continue to guide healing for all. 🧑πŸ”₯
