Nose First, Knows First

Positive reinforcement training can be a good technique for training your dog but just remember that dogs do not automatically understand that communication technique. Canine psychology will get the result you want faster and may leave a stronger impression on your dog.

More and more service dogs are becoming a growing field, and so are the breeds of dogs participating in the great working dog roles! Don't let an unfamiliar dog breed stop you from giving the dog a chance at the job, you may be surprised! These guys in the picture are all Barbets (French Water Dog) and they are a great dog for all kinds of working jobs!

Balanced dogs do nose, eyes, ears. If you find a dog is more eyes than nose then it can create problems with meeting other dogs. The dog is focusing on the looks of the other dog from past experiences rather than sniffing the other dog and keeping an open mind!

Do not be afraid to physically correct you dog for unwanted behaviour, remember that dogs are tactile animals and bite and use force in a pack instinctually. Training methods like sitting your dog down to calm them down is a human training method and often times will not calm you dog down. Knowing dog psychology and knowing how other dogs interact with each other is the best way to know how to communicate with your dog in the most easiest way possible!
