Major Changes for International Students in Canada

IRCC has introduced important updates that will impact both students and their families:

🔹 Master’s & PhD Students

Master’s and PhD students must now submit a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) when applying for study permits. About 12% of permit spots will be reserved specifically for these students.

🔹 New PGWP Rules

University graduates are required to have a CLB score of 7.

College graduates need a CLB score of 5.

This is expected to reduce the number of Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWPs) by 175,000 over the next three years.

🔹 Spousal Work Permits

Work permits for spouses are now limited to those whose partner is enrolled in a Master’s program lasting at least 16 months, leading to 50,000 fewer spousal permits being issued.
