A Minute with Maxwell on Mondays: Building Stronger Teams Through Understanding: A 6-Week DiSC Leadership Series
2️⃣Week 2 of 6: The Results Driver – Understanding and Leading High D Personalities
In every organization, there are individuals who naturally step forward when decisions need to be made, problems need to be solved, or goals need to be achieved.
They are often the people who ask:
"What's the objective?"
"How quickly can we move forward?"
"What's getting in the way?"
These individuals often exhibit a strong D (Dominance) style within the DiSC framework.
While everyone possesses a blend of all four DiSC styles, High D individuals are typically driven by results, achievement, and challenge. They are often confident, decisive, and action-oriented, focused on moving the organization forward.
What Motivates a High D?
High D individuals are energized by:
• Accomplishing goals
• Solving problems
• Making decisions
• Taking on challenges
• Influencing outcomes
• Achieving measurable results
They thrive when given autonomy and authority to act.
Strengths High D Personalities Bring:
Courage – Willing to make difficult decisions.
Initiative – Take action without waiting for direction.
Problem-Solving – Focus on solutions rather than obstacles.
Accountability – Take ownership of results.
Resilience – View setbacks as opportunities to improve.
In healthcare, seniors' living, and community services, High D leaders often help organizations navigate change, manage crises, and drive important initiatives forward.
Common Challenges
Like every DiSC style, strengths can become overused.
High D individuals may sometimes appear impatient, overly direct, or overly focused on outcomes. Under stress, they may become controlling, rush decisions, or lose patience with slower processes.
Communicating with a High D
When communicating with a High D:
• Be direct
• Focus on results
• Present solutions
• Respect their time
• Communicate confidently
Avoid excessive detail, repetition, indecisiveness, and unnecessary delays.
Working with Other Styles
High I: Drive plus enthusiasm creates momentum.
High S: Change meets stability; patience is essential.
High C: Speed balances accuracy and quality.
The key is recognizing that different approaches create stronger teams and better outcomes.

Seniors' living continues to evolve as older adults seek greater choice, meaningful engagement, and communities that support healthy aging.
Across the sector, organizations are adapting to changing expectations while creating environments where seniors can thrive.
As we celebrate Seniors Month, we asked members of the Maxwell Management Group team one simple question:
What is one change, challenge, or opportunity you're seeing in seniors' living today?
Their reflections point to a common theme: the future of senior living is being shaped by purpose, connection, choice, and the invaluable wisdom older adults bring to our communities.
