What if the person giving you hope during your recovery was once in the same hospital bed as you?
At BCHS, stroke survivors are returning to Brantford General Hospital’s Integrated Stroke Unit — not as patients, but as Peer Connector volunteers supporting others through some of the hardest moments of their lives. Through a new partnership with March Of Dimes Canada, survivors like David and Shamendree are using their lived experiences to offer encouragement, understanding, and proof that recovery is possible.
From navigating life after stroke to helping patients feel less alone, their stories are powerful reminders of the impact of connection, compassion, and community. 🫶

BCHS was honoured to host Chef Rick Powless of Oneida of Thames First Nations as part of a new collaboration with Compass One Group to develop patient meals inspired by local Indigenous communities.
A limited menu of Indigenous patient meals is set to launch later this month with a full menu anticipated for Fall 2026.
This work reflects our commitment to meaningful engagement, and we remain open to receiving ongoing input from the Six Nations’ culinary community on bettering the Indigenous/First Nation patient experience.
