ECU is pleased to announce the launch of a new flagship event: the European Senior Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2027, a key commitment of the ECU administration, now moving from plan to implementation.

The inaugural edition will take place in Monaco, 10–14 January 2027, with a €32,000 prize fund, delivering a dedicated top-level rapid & blitz championship for seniors and further strengthening the ECU senior events portfolio. The event presents the biggest prize fund for a senior chess competition in world level.

BREAKING: Vishy Anand shall act as interim president of FIDE!

His full statement:

Following the decision by President Arkady Dvorkovich to suspend the exercise of his duties, and in accordance with the FIDE Charter, I have assumed the responsibilities of Interim President.

I want to thank Arkady for his leadership and for putting the interests and stability of FIDE first.

Together with the FIDE Council, the administration and our member federations, my focus will be on ensuring continuity and serving the global chess family.

FIDE's work continues. Arkady has built a strong team and vision and I today take it as our collective responsibility to carry the work forward. Gens Una Sumus
