I run for a lot of reasons but one is to have more mental strength. Little opportunity each time I run to practice perseverance. To keep going even when other part of my mind and body just want to quit and tell me I can’t. Mind > matter.
I spend a lot of time focusing on the aspects of myself and my health that are external - I want people to see a beautiful, fashionable, fit woman.
But I try to remind myself to consider what they ‘see’ in my words, my action, how I handle tough situations and difficult people. My character.
Lately I’ve had this verse rolling around in my head a lot - consider it pure joy when trial comes your way (James 1:2). And consider it pure joy when you haven’t ran in 2 weeks and you feel like you can barely make 5k. When it’s hot and you’re sweating and you want to stop and walk it out. It sucks. And it’s also joy. Because this is the stuff that creates perseverance and character. Beauty on the inside > beauty on the outside.
