🌱 Growing Food, Skills, and Community!
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, EthioCare hosted a YardSmart Basics vegetable gardening event at Rotary Challenger Park in partnership with YardSmart.
The session was facilitated by Jill from the Calgary Horticultural Society, who shared practical gardening lessons with families. As YardSmart reminds us, “Being YardSmart is about enjoying an inviting, beautiful yard that’s low-maintenance, low-cost and easy on the environment.”
While 20 parents participated in the gardening session, 55 children and youth enjoyed basketball games and a pizza lunch at the same location. EthioCare also provided gardening tools and seeds to participating families so they can continue growing at home.

Today, EthioCare had the joy of gathering with more than 20 seniors at one of the beautiful park gazebos in Northeast Calgary.
After enjoying a refreshing walk together, we shared a traditional coffee ceremony, a favourite ethnic lunch, music, laughter, and meaningful conversation. It was a beautiful reminder that seniors’ wellness is not only about physical activity, but also about connection, culture, belonging, and joy.
Thank you to all the seniors who joined us and to everyone who helped make this gathering special. Together, we continue creating spaces where our seniors feel valued, included, and supported.
