Our team spent yesterday at the CLIQ Innovation Partnership Summit, presented by The Brenda Strafford Foundation and the BSF Dr. Barrie Strafford Centre for Learning, Innovation & Quality — and James Stauch’s keynote gave us a lot to sit with.

His framing: we’re not in “disruption,” we’re in rupture. The ground has shifted. Only 11% of global citizens expect society to remain stable — and our instinct in moments like these is to reach for solutions. Fast.

He pushed back: spend 55 minutes on the problem, 5 minutes on the solution.

Three traps he named that show up constantly in healthcare:
→ Solutions in search of problems
→ Low-friction fixes that ignore downstream consequences
→ Manufactured problems shaped to fit the tools we already have

What stuck with us most: every system has parts, relationships, and emergent properties — and the relationships matter more than the parts.

In LTC, the relationship between a caregiver and a resident is the system. It's where care actually happens. So when we think about where automation belongs — bedside charting, documentation, the admin layer — the question isn't "what can tech do?" It's "what's pulling people away from the relationship, and how do we give that time back?"

That's the work. And it starts with sitting longer with the problem than feels comfortable.

It's also why we put in the time to understand the problem before building VitalLink by Jubo — designed to ease the documentation burden at the bedside and give LTC caregivers back the time they need for residents, not paperwork.

Thanks to everyone we connected with for yesterday's conversations.
