Everybody talks about “exposure.”
But almost nobody teaches athletes HOW to maximize it.
One of my biggest frustrations as a sports parent was watching families spend thousands of dollars travelling across Canada and the U.S. chasing competition, tougher teams, and bigger events… with no actual roadmap on how to get seen.
Because let’s be honest…
Playing on Court 79 at 8:30am isn’t exactly exposure.
Especially when:
• there’s little to no footage
• nobody told coaches where you’re playing
• nobody follows up afterward
• and everyone is relying on a shaky eye-in-the-sky camera and a hope and a prayer.
That’s crazy to me.
Travel weekends are BUSINESS trips if your goal is to play at the next level.
Visibility matters. Preparation matters. Follow-up matters.
The athletes who separate themselves are usually the ones doing the little things:
✔️ emailing coaches before tournaments
✔️ posting schedules and highlights
✔️ creating consistent content
✔️ communicating professionally
✔️ following up after events
✔️ reviewing game film and self-assessing
Meanwhile, coaches are sitting in airports, hotels, and gyms scrolling their phones checking athletes long before they ever officially recruit them. They ARE watching. Even when you think they’re not.
The landscape has changed.
If athletes want opportunities, they need to stop treating social media like entertainment and travel tournaments like vacations and start treating it like a recruiting tool.
Exposure is no longer just about where you play.
It’s about how visible, accessible, and prepared you are BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the event.
Be seen. Be intentional. Be recruitable.
