Now that spring is here and more people are heading out to enjoy outdoor activities, it is important to check your gear, which includes the expiration date on your bear spray. Due to reports of bear spray being stolen from hazardous materials drop off stations, we encourage community members to utilize the Secure Disposal bins to get rid of expired bear spray. Calgary Police Service

Expired bear spray canisters can be disposed of at any of the secure drop-off bins, which are located at the following fire halls:
- Station 37 Evergreen
- Station 24 Cedarbrae
- Station 20 PeaceKeepers Way
- Station 4 Vista Heights
- Station 17 Varsity
- Station 31 Country Hills

Our District 3 members recently had the opportunity to participate in ‘It’s a Crime Not to Read’, which is an award-winning Calgary Public Library initiative where Calgary Police Service officers read books to Grade 3 students, share safety messages, and answer questions. Our members loved interacting with the students and staff and we are looking forward to the next event! Calgary Police Service

Our District 3 members recently received several handwritten notes of encouragement from students at St. Luke Elementary School. These notes are currently hung up outside our lunch room for officers to have a chance to read them and smile. We want to thank the students for providing these positive and uplifting messages to our officers! Calgary Police Service Calgary Catholic School District

District 3 members have a strong relationship and continue to work with the Partner Agency Liaison (PAL) team to address illegal encampments. The PAL team focuses on creating positive working relationships and open communication with numerous social agencies and businesses who work to support vulnerable populations. This week, six encampments located near the Baines Bridge were removed and everyone present was provided resources and support. City of Calgary – Your Local Government

Today, District 3 Community Resource Officers attended the Buchanan School to conduct a Cyber Safety presentation to the entire school, with a focus on the Grades 5 and 6 students. Calgary Police Service partnered with the Calgary Police Youth Foundation as part of their “Bridges to Brighter Futures” initiative to engage with youth in a positive manner. The CPYF also donated iPads to the school for the students to use. Members from both CPS and YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre gave a presentation teaching the students about online safety. Each child was then provided goodie bags which contained online safety information, free swim passes, and other great coupons from the community.
