ALBERTA LAND TITLES REGISTRATON FEE INCREASE EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 20TH, 2024

We have just learned that the anticipated land title registration fee increase is taking effect on all documents submitted to land titles after October 20th.
In the vast majority of purchases, documents are submitted to land titles on the Completion Day. What that means is that in most cases closings with possession days of Friday October 18th or earlier will still benefit from the current registration fees and possessions starting Monday, October 21st, will be subject to the new fees.
Here is the cost difference based on a $600,000 purchase with 80% mortgage financing.
Current LTO fees for registration of transfer and mortgage $484
New LTO registration fees after October 20th $1,180
As you can see the land titles registration costs will more than double.
