?ídísch'úzhí - Wild Rose!
Identified by:
• Light pink to magenta flower petals
• Thorny stem
• Flowers turn into a red small fruit called rose hips
• Leaves have serrated edges
?ídísch'úzhí (wild rose) is a super plant.
High in vitamin C, manganese, fiber (known to lower cholesterol)... those are just a few of the benefits this relative carries.
But besides helping us, ?ídísch'úzhí is a friend to our native pollinators. Who very much need all the help they can get.
When was the last time you saw ?ídísch'úzhí (wild rose)?

Last month, I had the honour of presenting to a bunch of students on Indigenous art, culture, and history for LitCon event.
I shared that before colonization, we used plant and animals in our regalia and art, but has evolved into the more modern beadwork that we see today.
I also shared the importance of building a relationship with the land, and that we can use art to show where we come from and what we like!
Check out the photos of the student's medallions.
Art can be such a wonderful tool to use to work through emotions, show pride in our ancestry, or used to create something beautiful!
The students always have great questions and I always feel rejuvenated after spending time with them (even virtually).
