The Cost to Care — hear the battle cry God of heaven 🐲⚖️🥄✂️🙏🏻

For years, I worked two full-time jobs.

One paid.

One didn’t.

The unpaid one was caregiver administration. The hidden JOB in disability services in order to manage and maintain services.

Coordinating staff.
Managing payroll.
Writing plans.
Tracking data.
Attending appointments.
Responding to crises.
Navigating systems.
Fighting for services.

I worked overtime trying to keep my career alive while carrying the invisible workload required to support my son.

People see disability benefits.

They don’t see the unpaid labour behind them.

They don’t see the careers interrupted.

They don’t see the health lost.

They don’t see the years spent working just to get to work.

The cost to care wasn’t just my time.

It was my scissors.

My career.

My health.

And now, 12 years later, I am rising to respond to ADAP, the employment. I am again still asking Alberta to recognize the hidden administrative burden families carry every single day.

It’s time.

Families should have the option of Family Managed Services when it is best for their loved one, without being forced to carry a crushing administrative burden. The care didn’t almost break me—the paperwork, coordination, payroll, staffing crises, and endless unpaid work did. ✂️🐉 if ADAP asks about my limitations. Who asks about the systems?
