HAWORTHIA, GASTERIA, ALOE

Haworthia, gasteria, aloe are winter growers. They are now actively growing in the Northern Hemisphere.

Haworthias and Gasterias are low light plants. There are many plants from Haworhia and Gasteria genus hybridized with compact aloes. In my garden, I experimented growing various common types, imitating how they are planted in their habitat. I ammend the local soil with coarse river sand, lava rocks and a small amount of compost. I planted single pups in April while they are actively growing. The plants entered dormancy when the temperature became warmer. Now, the weather is cooler, they are resuming growth and there are visible signs of clumping in some. Haworthia, gasteria and aloe are winter growers.

Haworthia
Haworthia is a large genus of small succulent plants endemic to Southern Africa (Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa). Like the aloes, they are members of the subfamily Asphodeloideae and they generally resemble miniature aloes, except in their flowers, which are distinctive in appearance. Gasterias
Gasteria is a genus of succulent plants native to South Africa. The name of the genus derives from the Latin word for “stomach”, and refers to the shape of the flower. For more readings, here is your link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasteria
