When did you start spreading the word about your pregnancy?

It can be a tough decision. Some say wait until you have completed the first trimester, some can wait to tell everyone. An argument can be made for just about any time. When I get asked this question I normally answer the same way, if you feel like you need to tell someone early, tell the ones you would also tell if you would loose the pregnancy. I know it isn’t the best to prepare for the worst, but having miscarried myself it is definitely nice to have people to lean on and I also wouldn’t have wanted everyone to know of my pain at that time.

So yeah, I am mostly a wait until your first trimester is complete and then tell- with like a couple exceptions for those who I know would be my support all the way through no matter what.

Spent some time this morning talking to my daughters about the world wars and what the sacrifice of so many has meant for them and our family. To those who fought for my safety and freedom, Thank you for your sacrifice.

You were carried for only a moment but will be loved for my lifetime.

1 in 4, those are the statistics on miscarriage. 1 in 4 women will loose a pregnancy. Seems like such a simple statement. Like it is so common that it shouldn’t be such a big deal.

And yet, here I sit imagining what that little 9 year old might have been doing today. Imagining all the possibilities had I not miscarried. I don’t think about it all the time, I am a mom of three and that makes me pretty busy but on October 23, I remember sitting in the emergency room waiting room on the anniversary of my own mothers passing head in my hands, trying to wish away the bleeding and heartache.

To all the people who have felt that sadness, to those who have watched the screen and been told there is no heartbeat, you are not alone. 1 in 4, it’s okay to not be okay, it’s okay to let yourself feel the feels, you can be strong tomorrow.
