🚨 CMBA 2024–2025 Year in Review is live 🚨

This past year was one of the more jam packed chapters in the 46-year history of Calgary Minor Basketball Association and we’re proud to officially share our 2024–2025 Year in Review.

In the last year, CMBA has taken meaningful steps toward becoming more than a basketball league. We’ve worked intentionally to build a basketball ecosystem that serves athletes, families, volunteers, officials, and the broader Calgary community.

A few highlights from the past year:

🏀 A full CMBA rebrand, including new bylaws and a clear vision rooted in community impact
🏀 Successful rezoning to improve parity, access, and reduce administrative burden
🏀 High-visibility Opening Weekend with the University of Calgary Dinos, including 4,000+ free t-shirts league-wide
🏀 Launch of a Coach ID Card program supporting over 1,500 coaches
🏀 Strategic partnerships with RefMasters and BetterHelp to support officials and family mental health
🏀 Hosting the first-ever CMBA Jamboree for 100+ non-provincial teams
🏀 Co-hosting 2025 Youth Provincials with 159 teams and 300+ games
🏀 Expansion of Diamond (female) and Platinum (male) high-performance programming
🏀 Release of CMBA Athlete Development Guides, aligned with national LTAD best practices
🏀 Increased investment in referee training, coaching, and mental skills development
🏀 Continued growth in women’s coaching and officiating participation
🏀 A Spring League of 150+ teams and 2,000 athletes, including a Championship Day where 3 gyms flooded—and zero games were cancelled

But this report isn’t just about what we’ve done.

It’s about where we’re going.

As Calgary continues to grow we are committed to expanding access, strengthening partnerships, and leading conversations around safe sport, inclusion, mental health, and youth development.

Our vision is clear:
✔️ Build pathways that prepare athletes for life, not just scores
✔️ Invest in people, culture, and long-term impact
✔️ Put kids at the centre of our decision making
✔️ Continue raising the standard for sport

Calgary Minor Basketball is ambitious and the best is still ahead.

Thank you to our volunteers, referees, partners, sponsors, staff, and families for believing in what this league can be and helping us build it together.

PS. Did we intentionally make it 23 pages and not 22 or 24 in honour of the true GOAT🤷‍♂️ You’ll never know.

In 2024 CMBA began evaluating the league’s zones based on on court parity, scheduling needs, administrative requirements, and future city growth.

CMBA, and all of it’s member zones, are very excited to inform you that the rezoning process was unanimously approved by our board on Dec.7th.

A brief overview of the process:

A Boundary Committee was formed with representation from CMBA, Bow River, SoCal, NCBC, Cochrane, and Okotoks.
That committee reviewed the population of each zone, where they live, city sprawl, and other factors.

The committee looked at multiple options and settled on creating a “New South Zone” that spans the city limits South of Stoney Trail.

Other, smaller changes, were made to boundaries across the league as well.

More information about the rezoning can be found on our website. We encourage all members to review this page in detail as there was only a couple zones whose boundaries didn’t change at all.

This exciting change permits CMBA to grow in a smarter way, while keeping all zones close in population and competitiveness.
