MIXED FEELINGS//⁣

As I sit in my nursing chair breastfeeding the baby and falling asleep I keep thinking about how delicious she smells. How these night feeds are also kind of sweet, it’s just us, nobody begging me to hold her, nobody saying “I can burp her”, just us. ⁣
⁣
When I’m burping her in the night I run my cheek against her hair and few how soft it is. I listed to her chugging milk, hearing her swallow the nutrients that I’m providing. ⁣
⁣
It’s just you and me, everyone else is sleeping, the world is quiet and dark. I know that these precious moments during night feeds are coming to an end soon and as much as I’m glad that I’ll soon be able to sleep more, I’m sad that I’ll miss this quiet time together. ⁣

It’s funny how I don’t mind waking to feed the baby and have a little snuggle but if I have to settle her after the feed for a while that quickly shifts how I feel. ⁣
⁣
So while I hate the night feeds and when it’s hard to settle her, I’m soaking in the tiny moments because who knows when my last night feed will happen. The first of many “lasts” to sneak up on me. ⁣
