Yes, we know it's only Monday, but we think you deserve a break.

I cried in a vineyard in Sonoma. I wasn't expecting to.

Standing in front of Mary Dewane, owner of Benovia Winery — someone who has spent decades building something truly extraordinary — and she was the one apologizing to me. For something she had absolutely no part in.

I went to California on a trip organized by California Wines. I came home with a lot more than just tasting notes.

This blog is about Zinfandel and Sonoma and 137-year-old vines on a hill with a name that will make you laugh. It's about a pruning cut made by hands over a century ago that I stood in front of and couldn't say a word. It's about three winemaker legends around a table with wines older than my career.

But it's also about a trade war. And a speech from our Prime Minister that moved people on both sides of the border. And an honest question I've been sitting with — what does "elbows up" really looks like when the choice is entirely your own.
