The gap between appearing connected and actually feeling it is one way autism presents differently in girls and women. More social motivation, more masking, more effort to seem fine. Less visibility to professionals and teachers who might otherwise refer for assessment.

The result is that most autistic females reach adulthood without a diagnosis and without the framework to understand their experiences.
