🚨 You might be accidentally teaching your dog to ignore you.

One of the biggest recall mistakes I see is owners calling their dog over… and then correcting them when they arrive.

Dog gets into the garbage.
You call them.
They come.
You scold them.

What your dog learns isn’t “don’t get into the trash.”

What they learn is:
👉 “Coming to my owner leads to bad things.”

Every time you punish your dog after they come when called, you weaken the recall and damage trust.

The goal is simple:

✅ Coming to you should always feel safe.
✅ Coming to you should always be worth it.
✅ Coming to you should never result in punishment.

Even if you’re frustrated.
Even if they just destroyed something.
Even if they made a terrible decision.

Reward the recall first. Address the behavior separately.

Protect your recall like your dog’s freedom depends on it… because one day it might.
