πŸ“ Start: Harry Hays Building
πŸ“ End: The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland

This community-led event is an opportunity to walk in solidarity, reflect on our shared history, and celebrate the strength, resilience, and vibrant cultures of Indigenous Peoples.

We’re incredibly honoured to see the 3rd Annual Red Dress Powwow featured in Alberta Native News.

This year’s gathering brought together more than 2,000 people in a powerful show of remembrance, resilience, healing, and community. Hosted by the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary, the Red Dress Powwow honours Missing, Murdered and Exploited Indigenous Peoples (MMEIP) while creating space for culture, connection, and collective healing.

This event would not be possible without the dedication of our Elders, staff, volunteers, dancers, singers, community members, sponsors, and everyone who attended. Together, we continue to raise awareness, support families and survivors, and ensure that those we have lost are never forgotten.

The overwhelming support shown this year reminds us that this work matters and that our communities are strongest when we come together in culture, ceremony, and solidarity.

Thank you to Alberta Native News for sharing this story and helping amplify the importance of honouring MMEIP and supporting Indigenous-led community initiatives.

June is National Indigenous History Month β€” a time to honour the rich cultures, languages, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis Peoples across Turtle Island.

At the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary, we recognize that Indigenous history is not confined to the past. It lives within our communities, our Elders, our Knowledge Keepers, our youth, and every person working to strengthen the path forward for future generations.

This month, we celebrate Indigenous excellence, resilience, innovation, and leadership while reflecting on the truths of our shared history. We invite everyone to take time to learn, listen, and engage with Indigenous voices, stories, and perspectives.

Together, we continue building communities grounded in respect, understanding, reconciliation, and hope.

Special acknowledgment goes to my good friend Kirby Redwood, MAL, MBA, CEC for his leadership and the team at Miskanawah for ensuring the families who will call this place home are supported in a culturally safe place.

This is an incredible achievement that will make a lasting difference in the lives of families by providing safe, affordable, and supportive housing.

Wishing you continued success as you create stronger communities and brighter futures for the families who will soon call Whitehorn home. πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ β€οΈ
