Spring shows up in many ways on a farm — the snow melts, the days get longer, the mud comes back, and everything starts to wake up again. But if you have chickens, you know the real sign of spring… the egg production starts to go up!

Not all farmers provide additional light for their chickens over the winter to keep them laying, so this time of year really does feel like nature flipping the switch back in some chicken coops!

Another fun fact, most of the chicken breeds that lay coloured eggs (blue, cream, pink, and chocolate) don’t lay as many eggs per year as the breeds that lay white and brown eggs. So coloured eggs are a bit more special around here.

Every Easter, we save up all the coloured eggs for a few weeks and package them together, a little spring collection from our chickens to your table.

🍂 Fall Flavours Close to Home 🍞

As our season winds down, we’re still excited to share a few local food treasures we love, right here close to home. If you haven’t put in your order for pumpkin sourdough from Greenbriar Market + Refillery Inc. yet, it’s not too late!

We tried a loaf last week and it was everything fall should taste like, creative, cozy, and downright delicious. Perfect toasted with a bit of butter!

From Field to Store 🎃

Last weekend we took in rows of pumpkins everywhere when we visited Johnson Taber Corn & Potatoes. We couldn’t resist bringing home a few small pie pumpkins on our road trip, but decided to save the big ones for when we got back to Calgary.

Today we popped into Save-On-Foods and there they were , Johnson Fresh Farms pumpkins, the very same ones being loaded on the farm just days ago! Pretty special to see the journey from the field to the store shelves.

It’s moments like that that make you appreciate where our food comes from, the hard work, the soil, and the seasons that make it all possible.

Here’s to the month ahead of pumkin everything!!

As the fields quiet and the evenings turn cool, we just want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by our market stand this summer. From early mornings setting up under blue and sometimes cloudy skies to the smiles and stories shared over bags of corn, popcorn, eggs, veggies, and honey, this season has been one to remember.

Our summer highlight was being right here in our own community, connecting with friends, neighbours, and new faces who came out to support local Alberta growers and makers. You made every market day special.

To wrap up the season, we took a little road trip down to Taber to visit Johnson Taber Corn & Potatoes operations and work on some new ideas for expansion next season. The corn rows were almost cleared, but potato and pumpkin harvest was in full swing.

It's always a blast seeing our customers, but when a garbage truck, street sweeper, dump truck, ice cream truck, water hauler - and on Friday even a limo - roll through our market stand drive thru, we can't help but get a little extra excited to snap a photo!

Harmony we are back today loaded with freshly picked produce, eggs, honey, and fresh tabercorn. We can't wait to see you!
