Foxglove Studio

I love the implied translucency of the orchid blooms in this, it's sort of a trick to eye, as they are actually quite opaque, but the shell elements try to convince us they might not be.

Since becoming a mum I haven't had much time to play around in the studio, spare time has a completely new meaning! I used to really take my time building floral structures, lighting them carefully, photographing them and then loads more time editing them until I felt like my images truly captured the essence of the flowers.

For now those days are gone, but in place of that drawn out process I've discovered something new, and perhaps more valuable.

In between client meetings, designing, and leading our Team - who are so utterly amazing they allow me to find pockets of time for a little bit of fun, I now build things with left overs very quickly, intuitively and confidently. Without the luxury of time to meander, ponder and fixate. I just do, and I let go of ownership of the things I make very quickly. Once our art is in the public realm, it doesn't belong to us anymore anyway (imo).

I think being pushed to work in this way is making me a more decisive, confident and efficient designer, just one of many unexpected gifts Motherhood has given me 🧡
