What’s more fun than hammering up a steep, 750m climb, as fast as you can? Doing so on a Friday evening with a bunch of friends. King and Queen of the Hill’s Week 1 group effort at Carter Buttress was a reminder that when you do it with friends, it doesn’t feel like suffering. Thanks for helping to make it all happen.

A week ago at the shop in Squamish, mid–snowpack talk, Eric from Zenith Mountain Guides put me on the spot:

“What’s going on at SkiUphill right now? What’s cool?”

And the answer wasn’t a new ski, or a binding, or whatever just landed in boxes.

It was this: Spring skiing is coming. Fast.

It always sneaks up the same way. One day it’s mid-winter laps and storm chasing. Then suddenly someone says “glacier tomorrow?” and now you’re digging through bins at 10PM trying to remember where your harness is… or realizing you never actually bought ski crampons for those shiny new bindings.

That shift from winter skiing to technical, objective-based days happens fast. And it’s usually not the fitness or motivation that shuts people down. It’s the missing piece of kit.

Ski crampons. A proper pack. A rope you trust. Skins that still grip when it matters. Small stuff, until it isn’t.

And here’s the part that’s changed again: gear availability is starting to behave like it used to. The good stuff doesn’t sit around. By the time you need it, there’s a decent chance it’s already gone. Not everywhere, not all at once, but enough that “I’ll grab it later” turns into “guess I’m not going.”

So this is your quiet nudge.

Build your spring kit now. Dial it, test it, throw it all in one place so when the invite comes in for something epic, you’re not the one hesitating because you’re missing something simple.

Spring skiing doesn’t wait around. Neither does your crew.
