This past weekend, I spent time in one of my favourite places, the library, with my older granddaughter. While we were waiting for a program to begin, we flipped through the 2026 program guide… and then came a big surprise.

Myrtle and the Big Mistake was featured as the “What I’m Reading” pick by Clarington Library CEO, Monika Machachek. I immediately called Lauren and we both squealed with delight.

The Clarington Library has long been such an important space for our family, so having our books included in their collection has already meant so much to us. To now be recognized in this way feels incredibly special and deeply meaningful. Wow, wow, wow.

What a beautiful way to begin the new year. Thank you, , and thank you to all of our kind friends and supporters. We can’t wait to share what we have planned for 2026. ✨📚

This morning, we had the joy of reading our Myrtle the Purple Turtle books to a few wonderful classes who braved the snowy weather to visit the Clarington Library.

Together, we explored what it means to be a good friend, how to name our feelings when we feel left out, why it’s important to be curious about differences, and ways we can stand up for ourselves and others. One student shared a touching story about how, when he first started at his school, he felt nervous because no one looked like him. But after meeting his teacher, who reminded him of someone in his family, he felt “safe”. His words moved all the adults in the room.

We’re so proud to be part of the Clarington community and grateful for moments like these. Thank you, , for having us, and thank you, Central Public School, for nurturing such a welcoming environment with incredible educators! 💜

We wrote Myrtle and the Big Mistake when Vivian was just a newborn. Now, watching her read it on her own—sounding out the big words and breezing through the small ones—is such a full-circle moment. Seeing her grow into a reader is something truly special. 💜
