Today I brought a crate out to a local ranch for a spayed feral cat who is starting her new life as a barn cat soon.

Rather than releasing her immediately, she'll stay safely contained in a sheltered area of the barn for about 10 days.

During this time, she'll become familiar with the sights, sounds, smells, and routines of her new home. Most importantly, she'll learn where food, water, and shelter are located.

After the acclimation period, she'll be released. Because she has had time to adjust, she's much more likely to recognize the barn as home and stay there instead of trying to return to where she came from. This greatly improves her chances of settling in successfully and staying safe.

This process is the recommended way to relocate feral barn cats and gives them the best opportunity for a successful transition.
