Soft Faults is open for a final weekend this Saturday & Sunday 10am-6pm. Come by to have tea with us and see the show! Photos show sneak peaks of the exhibition, the crack rubbing workshop we hosted last weekend, and ‘s beautiful food creations that explore the show’s theme - smashable rojak and seeping rose-lychee tea chocolate egg. My fav is the 2nd last slide showing our first attempt at breaking the chocolate with me shouting the the background “harder! with more resolve! use your judo experience” 💗

When working with clay, an enormous amount of labour is dedicated to avoiding cracks. Despite wedging, joining, supporting, and covering, clay can still fragment upon drying. Sometimes the only way forward is to accept the possibility of rupture.

Soft Faults is a collection of images that practice embracing change. Whether filled with herbal medicine or exposed to wind and rain, the unfired clay vessels in my photos inevitably seep and erode. But the vibrant stains that bloom in their wake quietly ask: what if cracks are not structural faults but moments that allow new possibilities to arise?

粘土を扱う際には、ひび割れを防ぐために非常に手間をかかる。練り、接合し、支え、覆いを施しても、乾燥の過程でなお崩壊することがある。ときには、破裂の可能性そのものを受け入れることが、唯一の前進となる。

「Soft Faults」

Unloaded a cone06 fire of clay+steel tiles this morning! I’m all ready to test rusting effects on these tiles. 🧡 I also tested some low fire glazes in this load. I love how the low fire crawl glazes came out, but the glossy ones need a different firing schedule to reduce pinholing. More to come!

Enamoured with the ground. I went to Eastern BC this summer and saw huge rocks in Yoho streaked with rusty orange and earthy yellows. Been dreaming about history and geology as I pour clay slips. Ready for the From the Ground opening tmrw, 6-8pm 🤎 thank you and Amelia Epp for bringing together this beautiful show!!
