Coquitlam Search and Rescue

July 11, 2026 at 2:25pm - Coquitlam SAR was asked by B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) to rescue an injured hiker on the South Slope Trail on Burke Mountain. Coquitlam SAR responded with our bike team and our helicopter rescue team, with our partners at Talon Helicopters. The subject with the injury was successfully rescued by hoist and transferred to BCEHS. The remaining two members of the group were then escorted out by members of the bike team. All members and subjects were safe and out of the field by 5:45pm.

Recently, Coquitlam Search and Rescue held our six-month review, giving members an opportunity to reflect on the first half of the year, discuss lessons learned, and prepare for the busy months ahead.

Afterward, we were excited to welcome our families for a BBQ to thank them for their ongoing support. Behind every volunteer is a network of family and friends who understand the commitment required to answer the call—often at a moment’s notice, any time of day or night.

June is National Safety Month, a great reminder that preparedness and prevention can make all the difference when enjoying the outdoors.

Before you head out, check the weather, tell someone your plans, carry the essentials, and know your limits. A little preparation can go a long way in keeping you and your group safe.

If you become lost or injured, stay where you are and call 9-1-1 if you have cell service. Staying put makes it much easier for search and rescue teams to locate you quickly and safely.
