The Abitibi greenstone belt, stretching across Quebec and Ontario, is one of the most productive gold regions on Earth. Over more than a century it has yielded an enormous amount of gold, and it still hosts active mines and exploration today.

Geologists are drawn to districts like this because the ancient geology that produced gold in one location often extends across the wider region.

However being in a great district is not the same as having gold. A strong address improves the odds that the underlying geology is prospective. It does not guarantee a discovery, the actual work still has to be done, claim by claim, target by target.

How does a gold exploration company fund its next chapter before it has produced a single ounce?

Junior explorers don't generate revenue the way a producing mine does, so they raise capital through private placements. One common structure is the subscription receipt: investors commit funds now, the money is held in escrow, and it converts into shares only once specific conditions are met. If the deal those funds are tied to doesn't close, the money is returned to investors. It's a structure built around milestones, not promises.

Yesterday, Seahawk Gold Corp. closed the first tranche of exactly this kind of financing, raising $448,000 of a planned $1,000,000 total. The placement is connected to Seahawk's acquisition of Sunridge Gold Corp. and Sunridge Mining Corp.

Seahawk holds a 100% interest in four properties along the Urban-Barry greenstone belt in Quebec's Abitibi, one of the most established gold districts in the world.
